I am the Master of Time. Have I always been? In a sense, yes. But in reality, no. My powers, the essence within me, has always been. But my physical body? No. There were those before me. Exer. Terrance. Jacob. Kyo. Tyler. Yexer. Anthony. They are all my ancestors in one timeline or another. We have to create each other after all. But does that mean even those who didn't exist in one timeline are still my ancestors? I would think so, but I do not know so.
I trace my fingers through the seams of time. They run across my hand like little threads that could easily be strained, lengthened, tied, or broken. That is my job. The Masters of Time protect this balance. The others who govern this universe don't realize the true stress that comes with this job. Well, a few have. Anyone who has ever associated with a Master of Time has. Vida, Modor, Húo, and a few others. They all knew. But most do not. Those in my current timeline do not. They may never know.
I see a flicker of light run across one of the threads. It races down a worn thread, one that no longer glows the same bright blue the rest of my time threads do. No, this one stopped glowing long ago, after a universe died within it. But that spec, it could mean that life is still out there or is being reborn.
I move closer and I see a second spec of light dancing with the first. I take hold of the thread and gasp as the power of it rushes through me. With a thought, I am sent into the universe that is connected with this thread. I gaze around, finding myself somewhere deep in outer space. I can feel the traces of the specs of light close by, but where. I close my eyes and it hits me in a flash that knocks my breath away. Suddenly I am above them.
I glance down as I see what appears to be a group of orbs. There are many that are slowly rotating, much like planets rotate on their axis. In the center, there are two unmoving orbs, with which the other orbs appear to orbit around. I draw closer to the orbs in the center and find the source of the specs. Within these orbs are small sparks of life, but not enough to begin just yet. I frown in disappointment. This universe had been dead since I had become a Master of Time. I had hoped it would become something more.
I started to return to my own universe, pulling apart the seams of this universe when I felt something dark strike me. I froze and looked back in the orbs. The lights within them had begun to dim. My eyes widened and I released the seams. The lights continued to dim and I realized what was happening. The life within them was dying and if they died, then this universe may never be revived again.
Frantically I glanced around, trying to find a way to save them but there appeared to be no savior in sight. That's when I realized what the solution was. I was supposed to save them. Reaching into my dimension once more, I pulled out my hourglass staff. Wrapped around the blue and gold staff was a green sash, a gift from my dead lover, Húo. I unwrapped the sash and touched it gently against the orbs. The light disappeared and for a moment I felt I was too late, but then the light returned and grew. I moved back a little as the light filled the orbs and soon the orbs began to take shape. I smiled and disappeared, heading back to my dimension. The thread began to glow upon my return, dimly at first but soon it was glowing just as vibrant as the others and I knew my job had been done.
