Hehehe…
Fools… fools… that's what they are…
They don't understand…
My needs… my wants… my desires…
They hold me back…
They hurt me…
They're killing me…
Yes…
I'm not dead…
Not yet…
They're making me dead…
I must escape…
Escape…
ESCAPE!!
A door slammed open as a figure burst from a pitch black room. Very few noticed as heated breath and heavy footsteps beat down the hallway towards the boundary between Elysium and the rest of the Underworld. None turned an eye at the battle cry that tore from the figure's throat as he charged the border. It was all per usual after all.
Electricity crackled as the figure crashed head on into the barrier, his pained cries echoing throughout the air, as they often did. However, this was a rare occasion, for instead of retreating like usual, the figure pushed forward, further into the barrier. The jewel centered on his collar that prevented him from crossing shattered from the pressure, and so did any resistance the barrier had against him. The figure smiled a serial killer's grin and charged into the underworld. Now heads turned, the sound of the shattering jewel capturing their attention. One individual, a woman, rushed over to the barrier's edge. She stared at the broken gem before looking back over her shoulder.
"Maddox!" she cried out. More heads turned as a middle-aged man looked up from his card game. He gently put down his hand, saluted the other players, then took off running. He dashed past the woman, tailing the figure before he got too far.
The figure glanced over his shoulder and growled in annoyance. The bastard was following him! The figure pushed ahead, weaving through the crowds of souls as he rushed towards his freedom. He wasn't dead. He wasn't finished. He needed to finish his work! And no one would stop him!
The middle-aged man, Maddox, followed close behind, muttering "excuse me" and "sorry" to everyone he pushed past as he dashed after the figure. He was quickly gaining on him and grabbed the figure's collar when he was close enough. Maddox lifted the figure off the ground and glared at him.
"Madder, you need to calm dow-" Madder shrieked and Maddox dropped the boy, both hands going to cover his ears as the weakened madness mage's powers took hold for a brief precious few seconds. Maddox blinked as he recovered then resumed the chase.
The two reached the less crowded areas of the underworld as they neared the exit to the world of the living. This was the closest Madder had every gotten before and he began to laugh as he could feel his whole body tingling in delight. He was almost there! He could finish his work! They would all know the name Jack the Ripper!
Madder dashed forward and reached out to touch the underworld's doors when suddenly he could go no further and it felt like his collar was choking him. The bastard.
"Madder, we've been over this. Come on, we'll get you back to Elysium and-"
"I'm not going back!" Madder snarled like a rabid animal. "I need to finish my work! I need to show the world that Jack the Ripper is not dead! And he never will be!"
"Madder-"
"And I don't need you to tell me I'm dead! Because the great Jack the Ripper is immortal!" Just as Madder wrenched himself from Maddox's grip, the underworld's doors opened and Madder collided with someone. The woman groaned and opened her eyes to find herself staring straight into the smile of a serial killer ghost. "Ah! My last victim! Come to give me a second chance at finishing the job, have you?" Life's breathing immediately picked up pace and shoved Madder off her. Madder cackled loudly as he watched Life's eyes grow distant and she shrieked at the memories that flooded back. Maddox took the opportunity to grab Madder and get a good grip on him this time. Just then Eucli appeared beside Maddox. Maddox handed Madder over to the time-space mage then moved to Life. He sat down beside her and began to rub her back as she trembled.
"It's okay, grandmother, it's okay. He's not here anymore. He can't hurt you."
